Cooper Maserati, Race of Champions 1967, Brands Hatch

Categories: ,

Description

F1 Cooper Maserati entered by Jonathan Sieff’s Cooper Group of Companies in the Race of Champions 1967, Brands Hatch.  These were entered for Jochen Rindt and Pedro Rodriguez, securing 6th and 9th on the grid respectively after the running of two 10 lap races before the 40 lap final.  There was also a spare car for Guy Ligier.  Rodriguez finished in 8th position in the final, Siffert (in Rob Walker’s Cooper Maserat) 11th and Ligier 16th whilst Rindt retired on the 4th lap.

The Rindt and Rodriguez V12 cars were as seen in 1966 but lightened with other detailed improvements.  Rindt’s entry had a 5-speed Hewland gearbox whereas Rodriguez used a 5-speed ZF box.  There was a third works car which Rindt tried in practice.  This had a modified Maserati engine with its two 12-pole distributors mounted back to back as against the more usual side by side configuration.  This car also had alternators built into each of the drives instead of the one alternator of the other cars.
